Norwegian universal design efforts lauded in Council of Europe report

Norwegian universal design activities are given high marks in a comparison presented in a Council of Europe report. The report discusses how to achieve full participation through universal design, and describes how far universal design efforts have come – and how they are being implemented – in eleven different countries.

A Danish report entitled “Accessibility – challenges, concepts and strategies” gives Norway top marks for among other things its political orientation in this sphere. The reports compares measures relating to universal design and accessibility in Australia, Denmark, Norway and the USA.

According to Inger Marie Lid, doctoral student at Oslo University College, there is a need for more theoretical study and a more critical approach to what we can achieve through universal design. Ms Lid explains her views thoroughly in her article “What can we achieve through universal design? A study of different aspects of the concept.”
